Controller

As the Controller, you are responsible for the financial reporting and accounting activities of a growing commercial insurance brokerage in Vancouver. Wylie-Crump (WCL),part of Navacord, is a growing Canadian-owned broker specializing in Construction, Real Estate, Professional Services and Marine industries. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be supporting executive leadership onkeystrategicprioritiesinordertomeetthefinancialobjectives.TheControllerwillbe responsible for providingthecompanywitheffectiveandtimelyfinancialmanagementandanalysis.Thisincludeskey strategic priorities such as modernizing and automating processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements and ensure accuracy and timeliness of information
  • Oversee and manage month end close and process journal entries
  • Income statement analysis to prior year, budget and forecast
  • Balance sheet account schedules and analysis
  • Administer salaries, government filings for payroll, T4’s and payroll processing
  • Profit Center analysis by department and producer
  • Ensure compliance with government reporting including corporate and client tax payments
  • Coordinate with external auditors and other government audits
  • Ensure effective controls are in place for data integrity and segregation of duties
  • RIBO reporting semi-annually; including monthly monitoring to ensure monthly compliance

FINANCIAL PLANNING

  • Annual financial plan coordination and preparation
  • Analyze financial viability of new systems or projects
  • Analysis of expenditures to assist in budget recommendations to management

CASH MANAGEMENT

Monitor trust account positions to ensure compliance with regulations

Coordinate and develop cash management procedures including reconciliation, investing strategy and overall cash flow tracking

Aged Receivables Collection Monitoring

Qualifications

  • Business/Commerce/Administration degree/diploma preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of Accounting experience required
  • Experience with Financial Analysis and reporting preferred
  • Accounting designation (CA, CPA, CMA, CGA) in good standing
  • Background in P&C insurance and experience within the broker segment of the insurance industry would be a definite asset
  • Strong software/MS Office skills: Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, ADP, banking systems
  • Exhibits professional leadership style and takes initiative
  • Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities
